Legacy
Organized in 1912, the purpose of the Lookout Mountain Beautiful Garden Club is to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening; aid in the protection of natural resources, native plants and wildlife and to encourage civic improvement.
1912
Lookout Mountain Beautiful Garden Club organized by Corrine Dodds Sanders, wife of Senator Newell Sanders and resident of Lookout Mountain.
1918
Joined the newly-formed Chattanooga Council of Garden Clubs.
1926
Joined the Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs
1948
Participated in the first State Flower Show sponsored by the State Federation.
1952
Sponsored a poster contest with an anti-littering theme and an essay contest on birds for students at Lookout Mountain School.
1963
Began a major Garden Therapy Project at Moccasin Bend Mental Hospital that continues today.
1973
Established an annual fundraiser of making and selling fresh Christmas wreaths.
1985
Established the Anna Law Spirit Award which continues to be given annually to the member who exhibits the most enthusiasm and dedication in her participation.
2001
Initiated a new five-year project at Fairyland Park that involved clearing weeds and privet and planting indigenous mountain plants. Fifteen Hemlock trees were planted the first year to form the background for subsequent year plantings.
2007
Began participation in and support of the National Garden Club’s Blue Star and Gold Star Memorial program to recognize the sacrifice of those who have served in the military (Blue Star) and those who gave their lives (Gold Star) to defend our freedom.
2012- Centennial Celebration
Produced, printed, and sold a club cookbook.
2020
Established gardens for pollinators and wildlife at The Commons’ Terraces in support of the National Garden Club’s “Plant America” program.
2022
A Spring Plant Sale was established as an annual fundraising event.
